Some information on the ingredients we have used in our St John's Wort Balm:
St John's Wort oil is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It calms inflamed skin and aids wound healing. The anti-inflammatory property of the oil reduces swelling and pain of skin irritations, dermatitis and disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and seborrhoea. It relieves itching and inflammation, helps soothe and repair damaged skin by stimulating blood circulation to damaged skin cells. It alleviates red, sore skin associated with acne.
Our balm has organic Shea butter inside as it is said to be a humectant, an occlusive, and an emollient. The unsaponifiable (healing) fraction for Shea butters is generally about 7-12% (some say as high as 17%) vs 1% or less for other seed oils. Shea butter has proven anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It is high in fatty acid and vitamin K concentration which is what helps our body heal faster when the skin has been compromised. It is easily absorbed into the skin due to its emollient properties and the moisturising effects last for hours unlike other moisturisers full of nasty chemicals. There are high levels of Vitamin E as well as vitamin A and vitamin C. These 3 antioxidant vitamins work together to increase the overall efficacy of each vitamin when applied to the skin. Our skin produces the same moisturisers found in shea butter by our sebaceous glands, no wonder why it’s called "The Tree of Life" and was a must in our formula!
Organic Coconut oil as it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil is mainly composed of healthy fats, it contains cleansing, healing and moisturising properties. When coconut oil is absorbed into the skin, it disrupts the natural environment for microbes that trigger skin conditions. Coconut oil has healing properties as it has antiseptic properties which speeds up the healing process (emollient & occlusive).
French Lavender essential oil is good for regulating the production of sebum; it also acts as an antiseptic as it has antiseptic properties and healing properties as well as anti-inflammatory properties which is believed to be excellent in the treatment of acne. Lavender has the ability to heal broken skin through stimulating cell renewal. It also prevents the skin from becoming itchy and dry. French Lavender is known to be aggressive in treating inflammation, zapping bacteria, and relieving pain due to its higher Linalyl Acetate content.
Roman chamomile essential oil benefits the skin by calming irritation and inflammation, reducing redness, and providing antioxidant protection against aging. It's effective for soothing sensitive, reactive, and acne-prone skin, as well as helping with conditions like eczema and rosacea. The oil's anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make it useful for treating minor wounds and preventing blemishes, while its ability to promote relaxation can indirectly benefit the skin by reducing stress.
When Beeswax is applied on the skin, it forms a natural protective barrier around it, protecting it from certain environmental nasties and locking in essential moisture. Beeswax attracts moisture and allows your skin to absorb essential water molecules, keeping your skin fresh and hydrated (emollient & occlusive). It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties as well as being high in vitamin A. It is hypoallergenic and moisturising which is why we combined beeswax with other oils to be able to seal and deeply penetrate into the depths of the skin.
