Some Information on the ingredients we have used for our, Camel Milk Hair & Body Wash;
Aqua (water) is the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) term for water (H₂O) and is a crucial ingredient that acts as a solvent for other ingredients, a vehicle for active ingredients to penetrate the skin, and a hydrator, replenishing the skin's moisture barrier.
Decyl Glucoside is a mild, plant-based surfactant: It is derived from glucose (from corn or potato) and decyl alcohol (from coconut or palm). It is non-ionic which means its molecules have no charge, allowing for gentle cleansing without being irritating. It is a mild, plant-derived surfactant used in skincare for its gentle, non-drying cleansing properties, making it suitable for sensitive skin and baby products. It functions as an emulsifier, helping to create stable formulation of oils and water, and provides a luxurious foam while effectively removing dirt and oil without stripping the skin's natural moisture (DECYL GLUCOSIDE - Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI), 2022).
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a mild, amino acid-based surfactant derived from coconut oil and glutamic acid, used in skin care for its gentle cleansing, rich lathering, and moisturizing properties. It effectively removes dirt and oil while remaining non-irritating, making it a good choice for sensitive, dry, or oily skin. This environmentally friendly ingredient is also known for its ability to stabilize foam, soften hard water, and improve skin's moisture retention (Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (Surfactant): Cosmetic Ingredient INCI, 2022).
Coco-Glucoside is a gentle, plant-derived surfactant used in skincare for its cleansing, moisturizing, and conditioning properties. It effectively removes dirt and impurities while being mild enough for sensitive skin and leaving the skin soft and hydrated. Derived from coconut fatty alcohols and glucose, it also functions as a foaming agent and emulsifier, making it a popular ingredient in natural and organic cosmetic products such as cleansers, body washes, and baby care products (Coco Glucoside (Surfactant): Cosmetic Ingredient INCI, 2022).
Camel milk offers numerous skin benefits, including anti-aging properties, hydration, and reduced inflammation due to its high content of vitamins, antioxidants, and immune-supporting proteins. It stimulates collagen production, nourishes the skin's microbiome, and helps to protect against UV damage. The milk's natural fats and lactic acid also provide exfoliation and deep skin nourishment, promoting elasticity and a youthful, balanced complexion (Doctor's Desk, 2024).
Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin to hydrate, soothe, and strengthen the skin barrier. It is a safe, non-comedogenic ingredient found in many cleansers, moisturisers, and other products, suitable for most skin types, including sensitive, dry, and acne-prone skin. Glycerin helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, protects against irritants, and enhances the penetration of other active ingredients in skincare products (Frothingham, 2019).
Lauryl glucoside is a plant derived surfactant widely used in skin care for its gentle, effective cleansing properties and suitability for sensitive skin. It is made from plant-based alcohol (from coconut or palm oil) and sugar. It lifts dirt and oil without stripping the skin's natural moisture, helping to maintain its balance and protective barrier. It is considered a safe, mild, and biodegradable ingredient (Lauryl Glucoside | Ecostore AU, 2024).
Sodium cocoyl glutamate is derived from coconut oil and the amino acid glutamic acid, it is also environmentally friendly (Magcalas, 2020).
Coco-Glucoside (and) Glyceryl Oleate is a plant derived, multi-functional ingredient used in cosmetic and personal care products like shampoos, body washes, and baby cleansers to provide gentle cleansing, improve product texture, and restore skin and hair's natural lipids. This ingredient is known for its moisturising and non-irritating properties and functions as a lipid layer enhancer, a viscosity-increasing agent, and a natural thickener for cleansing formulations (Lamesoft® PO 65 - Humblebee & Me, 2025).
Sweet almond oil is full of vitamin E, vitamin A, mono-saturated fatty acids, protein, potassium, and zinc (Buckler’s, 2019). Sweet almond oil is mostly non-comedogenic, which means it’s unlikely to clog your pores. Almonds are a major source of vitamin E in the Alpha-tocopherol form and contain such essential oils as Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Oleic and Linoleic Acid (Wiles, Williams, & Ahmad, 2011). Historically sweet almond oil was used on smallpox infections to prevent scarring (Wiles, Williams, & Ahmad, 2011). Now days the main purpose of external use of sweet almond oil is for moisturizing, reduce pruritus (scratching/itching) and reduce inflammation of the skin, especially once it is mixed with other essential oils or compounds to provide multiple benefits (Wiles, Williams, & Ahmad, 2011). Sweet almond was traditionally used as an antibacterial for chapped lips, an emollient and a moisturiser. External use of sweet almond oil has many benefits for the skin and can be especially useful in the treatment of dry and scaly skin (Wiles, Williams, & Ahmad, 2011). The benefits of sweet almond oil can be appreciated by those with oily, dry, and sensitive skin (Buckler’s, 2019). The dermatological applications of sweet almond oil are; Atopic Dermatitis, Eczema, Acne, Sunburn, psoriasis, Ichthyosis, Xerosis (dry skin) and Rosacea (Wiles, Williams, & Ahmad, 2011).
Calendula Extract, a botanical ingredient that comes from the common marigold. This ingredient has several properties that make it essential to any skin care regimen, including the promotion of skin tightness, promotion of wound healing and UV protection (Hanley, 2018). Calendula Extract prevents aging in two different ways: It promotes skin tightness, which reduces day-to-day damage, and it also increases hydration within the skin, which is one of the main ways to prevent signs of aging. This ingredient also promotes wound healing while reducing inflammation (Hanley, 2018). That makes Calendula Extract ideal for healing redness, acne and sunburn. Calendula has antiseptic properties, which are helpful for treating wounds and preventing acne (Hanley, 2018). As a skin conditioner, Calendula Extract stimulates collagen production, and it also reduces the occurrence of dry skin. Calendula is a naturally occurring antioxidant. It’ll help protect against pollutants and photoaging caused by sunlight (Hanley, 2018). Calendula extract is beneficial for any skin conditions including rosacea, psoriasis and eczema to name a few.
Gluconolactone and sodium benzoate is a naturally derived, broad spectrum preservative blend for cosmetics and personal care products, combining glucono-delta-lactone (GDL), a moisturising and chelating agent, with sodium benzoate, a widely used food-grade preservative. This combination provides protection against bacteria, yeast, and mold which is suitable for organic and sensitive skincare, and offers benefits beyond preservation, such as moisturising and chelating properties (Dreher, F., Jungman,E., Sakamoto,K., Maibach, H. 2022).
Jojoba is a golden liquid wax (often called jojoba oil) that is made from the jojoba bean. A plant native to Southwestern North America, it was highly valued by the Native Americans of the Sonoran Desert as a potent balm for skin ailments and a skin restorer (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). About 30% of our skin’s sebum (the natural substance that coats our skin) is a natural wax ester. It helps kill germs, smother viruses and creates a protective barrier for locking in moisture. Your skin recognises jojoba wax like its own natural wax ester (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). As a result, skin pores remain open allowing jojoba to penetrate beyond the epidermis layer (top layer). It is in these deeper layers where cell regeneration and cell synthesis occurs, and jojoba also ‘carries’ other important nutrients deep into these layers (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). Experiments were conducted at the University of Michigan, and their findings have shown that jojoba oil has a unique ability to penetrate skin which demonstrates that jojoba oil softens the skin from within (National Research Council, 2002).
Jojoba naturally contains a balance of vitamins A, D and E which are known as skin healing vitamins. Vitamins A. Jojoba is naturally rich in natural Vitamin A, and unlike synthetic formulas, is safe through pregnancy, for babies and adults. Vitamin A is important for skin cell regeneration and keeps skin healthy (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). Essential fatty acids omegas 6 and 9 help to regenerate skin cells and repair damaged skin tissue. Powerful antioxidant properties: Able to penetrate down to the skin matrix level (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). Jojoba’s wax ester fills the gaps between skin cells, soothes and slows their metabolism, protecting skin against accelerated skin aging. Docosenol is a saturated fatty acid naturally contained in jojoba. Docosenol is antiviral and is used in cold sore treatments (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019).
Jojoba is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic, so it is used to soothe a wide range of skin conditions. Jojoba is suitable for all skin types — including oily skin and the most sensitive baby skin (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). There are calming and soothing benefits for scars, burns, rashes, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, nappy rash, cradle cap and acne. Dermatological research suggests that jojoba oil may help reduce inflammation (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019). Jojoba oil also showed noticeable improvement in patients that suffered from psoriasis (National Research Council, 2002). There is beauty and pampering benefits to reduce wrinkles, stretch marks, dry and sensitive skin, sun damage, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, oily skin, age spots and nourish hair (Jojoba Company Australia, 2019).
Xanthan gum is a natural thickening, stabilising, and emulsifying agent derived from bacterial fermentation (XANTHAN GUM - Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI), 2022).
Vitamin E is one of the world’s best-known antioxidants. Vitamin E oil's potential benefits derive from two key features: its antioxidant properties, which could fight inflammation and slow the effects of free radicals, and its moisturising properties (Watson, 2019). Vitamin E is found in many moisturisers, and the oil may be used as a moisturizer to prevent or treat dry, flaking skin (Watson, 2019). Vitamin E is high in antioxidants, and it affects blood circulation.
Citric acid in skincare acts as a chemical exfoliant, primarily as an AHA, to improve skin texture and tone by removing dead skin cells. It also functions as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage, and as a pH regulator, helping to stabilize product formulas. While it offers benefits like increased collagen production and reduced signs of aging, it can increase sun sensitivity, so daily SPF use is essential when using citric acid products (Citric Acid (Chelating Agent): Cosmetic Ingredient INCI, 2022).
Sodium phytate is a natural, plant-derived chelating agent and antioxidant used in skincare for its ability to stabilize formulas, improve moisture, brighten skin, and provide gentle exfoliation, leading to a smoother, more radiant complexion. As the sodium salt of phytic acid, it's considered safe, suitable for most skin types, and a great alternative to synthetic chelators like EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) (Nelson, 2024).
Lavender oil is good for regulating the production of sebum; it also acts as an antiseptic as it has antiseptic properties and healing properties which is excellent for the treatment of acne and skin conditions (Waring, 2010). When combined with wheatgerm oil, lavender will soothe and help promote new cell growth, and wheatgerm oil will minimise any scarring (Waring, 2010).
Lavender oil has been used for hundreds of years to ease the pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis which is an inflammation of the joints. Lavender oil has anti-inflammatory properties which are excellent for aches and inflammation when used in bath soaks (Waring, 2010). Lavender oil is used in many treatments; to name a few, athletes foot, blood pressure, bruises, boils, bunions, burns, cold sores, cuts and grazes and eczema. Lavender can heal broken skin through stimulating cell renewal. It also prevents the skin from becoming itchy and dry. Lavender relaxes muscles and relieves pain (Waring, 2010).
Sodium chloride, or common salt, serves as a multifunctional ingredient in skincare, acting as a thickening agent to improve product texture, a mild abrasive for exfoliating dead skin cells, and a preservative to extend shelf life (Sodium Chloride, 2022).
